TFs in the Movies
Funny Farm by Warner Brothers, 1988 with actors Chevy Chase and Madolyn Smith.
A New York sportswriter, played by Chevy Chase, has a green MGTF. He heads for the country and along the way drives into a lake and off a cliff. Ouch!
I.Q. by Paramount, 1988 with actors Walter Matthau, Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins.
Meg Ryan's fiancee owns a red MGTF which has electrical problems. Tim Robbins is an auto mechanic who both works on the car and is attracted to Meg Ryan. The car appears only briefly.
Not only does Tim Robbins work on the TF in this movie...but comes up with the "problem" being a bad distributor cap whilst looking under the right side bonnet! I don't believe he ever opened the left side... don't know about you, but that's where my dizzy is! (Thanks to David Sheward for this observation.)
A Guide for the Married Man by 20th Century Fox, 1967 with actor Art Carney.
This film has shots of an MGTF.
Pillow Talk by Universal International, 1959 with actors Doris Day and Rock Hudson.
This film is hilarious in that it shows a large Rock Hudson struggling to get in and out of an ivory TF 1500.
Paris Holiday directed by Gerd Oswald, 1956 with actors Bob Hope, Anita Ekberg and Fernandel.
There is a rather lengthy sequence in which Hope dangles from a rope ladder beneath a helicopter flown by French comedian Fernandel across the French countryside as two lovely young ladies motor along below in a yellow MGTF.
Heartbeat, 1993
Polly Draper drives a cream TF. Near the beginning of the picture her husband suggests they buy her a new BMW as a replacement, but she says no. "It runs great and never breaks down. You're just embarrassed to park your Porsche next to my car."
