Engine Colors

Mike Walsh:
Colors: the engine was basically the dark red for the engine components which are on the engine not including the starter, generator, draft pipe on side of side cover et al. This would include the engine water outlet being red. The generator is basically black with red ears where it bolts to the block but not so for the starter which is all black. The water pump is red, the spacer is red - I believe - and the fan blades are black. The aluminium pan is also red. The valve cover is a silver green in color. The pipe going to the forward pancake aircleaner is also red with the air cleaners being black with black mesh.

Transmission is all red except for the remote which is left in its natural aluminium. This includes the bellhousing, main box, and output flange.

Art Mafli:
Colours: There has been and maybe always will be some debate about the colours inside the engine compartment. Most copper and brass items such as drain plugs, and oil line - head to block were painted dark red by the factory. Today most TF owners perfer to leave these unpainted. The pan (sump) was originally dark red, but today many are left unpainted or painted with high heat aluminium paint. The valve cover has been termed grey green, mint green, and silver green. Take your pick.

The best source for all information on most, if not all, aspects of the TF is The T Series Handbook, edited by Dick Knudson.

Any comment on this subject or anything else pertaining to the TF is most welcome.
